When Lime Venue Portfolio created the Conversations in AI whitepaper, we gathered that the events industry's experience when it comes to AI in practicality is spread from little experience to confident use.
To help get everyone on the same page, we created a glossary of "good to know" terms, which are mentioned in more details in our conversations with industry AI experts.
Take a read below and familiarise yourself on the different aspects of artificial intelligence.
Agentic AI
Agentic AI is an artificial intelligence system that can accomplish a specific goal with limited supervision. It consists of AI agents – machine learning models that mimic human decision-making to solve problems in real time.
Algorithm
An algorithm is a set of instructions used to perform tasks such as calculations and data analysis, usually using a computer or another smart device.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
AI is a branch of technology that enables computers and machines to simulate human learning, comprehension, problem solving, decision-making, creativity and autonomy.
AI slop/slush
AI slop / AI slush is colloquially used to describe low quality content generated by AI that is noticeably AI generated, due to inaccuracies or a lack of significant human effort.
Automated decision-making
Automated decision-making encompasses both solely automated decisions (no human judgement involved) and automated assisted decision-making (assisting human judgement).
Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO)
Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) is the process of optimising digital content for AI models to be featured in their citations and generated answers.
Generative AI
Generative AI is an AI model that generates text, images, audio, video or other media in response to human prompts. Generative AI applications include chatbots, photo and video filters, and virtual assistants.
Large Language Model (LLM)
A Large Language Model is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that excels at processing, understanding and generating human language. Some examples of LLM AI platforms include ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
Machine Learning
Machine learning is a type of AI that allows a system to learn and improve from examples without all of its instructions being explicitly programmed. Machine learning systems learn by finding patterns in training datasets. They then create a model (with algorithms) encompassing their findings.
Prompting
Prompting is how the user asks questions and seeks information through AI systems. Beyond simple and historic search engine questioning, prompting requires further ‘context’ and information to garner more relevant and high-quality outputs.
Personalisation
Personalisation is how event organisers seek to ensure the relevance of their event, at an individual level, to each delegate. Event technology has sought to improve personalisation of events for many years, with AI the latest to elevate this promise.
Tools
Tools refers to the difference, in AI circles, between singular use ‘tools’ that achieve one specific task or goal, as opposed to wider workflow systems that work across multiple and longer-term projects.
Workflow Automation
Workflow Automation is the use of software to execute recurring tasks or processes (such as data entry) based on predefined rules.
