Receptions in London can be held for all sorts of reasons, from product launches to leaving dos, office parties and entertaining potential clients. Whatever the reason, there are a wealth of amazing London reception venues available to you and any number of ways to customise your company event. But if you want your reception in London to be a little different and stand out in the memory of all attendees, how can you raise the bar above a run-of-the mill corporate reception?
One of the most sure-fire ways of making your reception in London stand out is by picking a theme to structure the evening around. As reception events have become more relaxed and companies want to give staff more occasions to let their hair down, guests are happier than ever to embrace a theme and get into the spirit of the event. Here, then, are just five themes you might choose when hosting your reception events in London…
Five Top Themes to Jazz up Your Corporate Reception in London
The Jet Set Lifestyle
If there’s one subject people love to talk about it’s travel and all the amazing places they’ve seen over the years. You could decide to embrace the ‘jet set’ lifestyle as your theme, particularly if you choose to host your London reception at the incredible NY-LON. Celebrate the style and sophistication of transatlantic flight in First-Class by encouraging guests to wear fittingly glamorous attire, and choose a menu which unites the best of British and American cuisine (and cocktails).
Guests to your London reception could also enjoy NY-LON’s in-house cinema, and with extremely competitive packages available, you could hire this exclusive venue for the night and really give the high-flyers you invite having an evening to remember.
A Spot of Sport
There’s always some sporting event in the calendar which you can play off, from Wimbledon to the World Cup. Although it may seem a risky pick and not to everyone’s taste, there are ways you can use a sporting theme which will really add some fun to your corporate reception in London. The capital is famed for its sports teams and venues, so choose somewhere such as the iconic Twickenham Stadium and you’re in for a real treat.
With a maximum capacity of 1,200 there’s no need to cut the guestlist! Enjoy drinks, canapes and bowl food whilst overlooking the magnificent grounds, and perhaps ask guests to embrace the sporting theme by encouraging them to wear some small token to represent their favourite team or preferred sport – it could make for a good conversation starter as attendees start networking.
Add Some 50s Glamour
It was the heyday of the silver screen, and there’s no denying that the post-war glamour has never gone out of fashion. Create a late 1940s/1950s vibe with a touch of vintage and celebrate the best of British at the unique Churchill War Rooms. As such an important location throughout the Second World War, the refurbished cabinet war rooms are the ideal venue for hosting a vintage glamour-inspired reception.
You don’t necessarily need to go as far as stringing up the bunting and polka dots (although it might be fun), but you might encourage guests to dress in classical 50s style and choose a menu of cute canapes and finger food featuring British classics.
Be on Trend
Somerset House provides the exquisite backdrop to Pennethorne’s Bar, one of the capital’s most exclusive venues. It’s also the home of London fashion week, so why not take inspiration from the sophisticated and elegant setting alongside all the buzz, style and vibrancy of the world of fashion – a high glamour theme could really let guests unleash some sparkle in their outfits and indulge in an evening’s fine wining and dining at this iconic landmark.
Pennethorne’s specialises in wines and menus inspired by the Grand Tour of Europe, popular in the Victorian era. Guests can sip luxurious European wines and cocktails al fresco, whilst enjoying a canape and small bites menu featuring dishes from Spain, France and Italy. This is the perfect trendy spot for a glamorous reception in London.
The Name’s Bond…
For suave and sophisticated you cannot go far wrong with a 007-inspired evening reception. All things to all people and one of the country’s most well-loved exports, James Bond’s sharp suits and tuxedos lend themselves very well to a black tie dress code for male guests, while the ladies can have an excuse to don their most elegant floor-length gowns or favourite LBDs. Keep the Martinis flowing and add a few Bond-themed decorations to your London reception venue and it will be a truly memorable evening.
Choose a venue like HMS Belfast if you really want to wow guests with your Bond theme. Enjoy views over the Thames – setting for many a chase scene – and the historic and awe-inspiring nature of this unique venue is sure to impress. With competitively priced reception packages available, this could be the perfect venue to charm guests at your reception in London.
