Aaaah February! Often referred to as the ‘Month of Love’, home of Valentine’s Day, Sunday, 14th February. So, with this in mind we look at another match made in heaven; the union of small meetings at unusual venues, yes, we really do think like that. You see, every meeting is different, but in the case of small meetings there is one thing that unites them all.
Small meetings mainly consist of board meetings, creative team meetings, planning meetings, divisional meetings, reviews or interviews. They involve a big table, 10-20 chairs, and multiple cups of coffee.
But what unites them is their intensity; every one of these meetings requires multiple decisions to be made, often on the spot. They need long term planning and strategic direction. They ask for massive contributions from delegates to be creative, decisive, at the top of their game, and on the right side of their brains. They wash this all down with coffee and biscuits.
Not why the meeting, but why the coffee and biscuits? In fact why the traditional board room table, windowless rooms, and stale setting that is often the outward perception of a small meeting? There is another way.
If we, as event planners, want to drain our delegates minds to the point of exhaustion, it’s our responsibility to prepare them adequately first. If we want inspiration then we should at least give them an inspirational setting.
At Lime Venue Portfolio, we have unusual and inspirational venues in abundance; from museums and galleries, to football and rugby stadiums. We’re fortunate to conduct our own meetings in these venues and get the pleasure of walking into meeting rooms with expansive views of sunlit racecourses or unique spaces adorned with interesting memorabilia.
It’s a great opportunity for us to remind ourselves of our customers’ journey and what is clear is that arriving at a unique venue and settling down in a great space really does help to inspire us. Similarly, when our delegates arrive, they are already on the right side of their brains, and maybe ready for something a little different and a lot more special.
We like to encourage our customers to consider healthy and nutritious food options; how about an energy bar and smoothie to get people started – at least as an alternative to coffee. How about a lunch that keeps them awake in the afternoon, not puts them to sleep?
We believe that every meeting matters and that great meetings create great business. Small meetings are small in delegate size, but they are big on impact. So this Valentine we’re advocating the union between small meetings and unusual venues.
Let decisions be made, creativity role and let the love affair begin.
