Our latest Q&A session introduces Lime Venue Portfolio’s Meetings and Events Consultant, Emma Bullas. Emma has been part of the Central Sales Team since November 2018 and has already been to visit around 10 venues within the portfolio.
How long have you worked with Lime Venue Portfolio and what does your role involve?
Since November 12th 2018, although it seems likes I’ve been here forever! I work within the central sales team which involves dealing with enquires for all our 87 venues, qualifying and sending the information to our venues. It also requires dealing with queries, problems and questions that clients, corporates or agents may have for their events.
What do you enjoy most about working in events?
I’m a people person. I love to interact with people, whether that be the teams at venues, clients and customers who come up with the events and enquires, and ofcourse the LVP team. I love chatting, networking and getting to know people and their events.
Favourite experience at a LVP venue and why?
Within my first month of working for LVP I went on the London Safari visiting 3 of our venues along with other event professionals. We got to have breakfast at Churchill War Rooms, sit next to the stunning ice rink at Somerset House and drink lovely hot chocolate with cream and a cheeky gingerbread man. Our trip finished aboard the amazing HMS Belfast where we had a delicious lunch. Who wouldn’t be happy to walk around these 3 amazing spaces and enjoy some tasty grub?
Why do you recommend attending site visits or showcases?
Clients can see all the ins and outs of venues and rooms which may be distorted or unclear on photos. It helps to give them a real feel about the venue, they can understand the journey of their guests and can do a walkthrough of all event spaces needed. It helps to envision and plan the logistics of their event thanks to being in the venues themselves.
Favourite food and why?
Chicken, steak, duck - anything to do with well cooked meat - a nice sauce, nice flavour and with a little kick. My favourite meal would have to be salt and pepper chicken with fried rice and sweet and sour sauce.
What can venues do to help event bookers in their decision making?
SELL THEMSELVES – Giving best rates first, showing all their USPs and added value, the more unique and unusual things they can offer the more appeal it has to the client. It helps to differentiate them from other venues and shows the client their understanding of their event and requirements.
What is the best part of your job and why?
Getting an enquiry from a client who may be a bit lost with their venue finding, and then being able to help find their perfect venue, that meets all the needs of the event and exceeds all their expectations.
Karaoke song of choice?
Shania Twain – Honey I’m Home or any Steps classic (90s child)
What do you enjoy the most about working with venues, agents and businesses?
The variety! From dealing with hotels to museums to ships, from looking at a meeting for 4 to a 500 person dinner and dance, to a 1000 guest pet show. The variety keeps the job interesting and keeps you on your toes – you never know what people will ask for next!
Tell us something we didn’t know about you?
I have a 4 year old cream Chow Chow called Bear who literally looks like a bear and has a black tongue - he’s so fluffy!
How do you stay motivated in your role?
My love for events and people, keeping my work organised, having fun and upbeat conversations with work colleagues and clients, and of course, sweet snacks in the afternoon.
What piece of advice would you give to customers who are looking to book an event with Lime Venue Portfolio?
Give as much detail about your event and requirements as you possibly can, the more you can give LVP the more specific we can be to find your perfect venue!
What interesting events have you attended at venues within our portfolio and which venue was your favourite?
I’ve been to a London safari visiting 3 of our central London venues, and the ‘Mindful Meetings’ menu launch at Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, but my favourite was a night at the races at Cheltenham Racecourse. We got to enjoy hospitality in a box and had an event with Greg James to follow.
All great fun, great people, amazing food and stunning locations.
