For years there has been research on whether eggs contribute to high cholesterol. There have even been suggestions to limit the consumption of eggs within the diet, so is this the truth or a myth?

It’s a myth!

Eggs are a great source of protein and essential vitamins and minerals, they are also an affordable source of high quality protein with many benefits.

The more likely culprits for high cholesterol in the diet is the excess saturated fat in our diets such as full fat cheese, whole milk and fatty cuts of meat. The way in which you can cook your eggs can affect the cholesterol content such as frying in butter, or the addition of cheese. Simply boiling, poaching or scrambling eggs with no fat is a good quality source of protein within your diet and is quick and easy to prepare.

So next time you go to fry that egg, perhaps consider having a poached egg with brown bread!
