It’s become a much-repeated maxim in the meetings and events industry that ‘corporates hate uncertainty’. Turbulence is unsettling and let’s face it, there have been few more turbulent years than 2016 of recent.
The meetings and events industry has long been a victim of such turbulence. In the past we’ve seen everything from General Elections to Olympic Games have a negative effect on the industry. The uncertainty these events cause, create a knock on of delay, and occasionally cancellation. We see it time and time again.
There is another way of approaching this maxim, one that perhaps lays more credit on the work being done by creative event professionals every day. Let’s consider what great conferences and events have done, and will continue to do; they create communication platforms, networking and sales & marketing opportunities.
One could easily argue that, in an uncertain market, a conference can bring certainty and stability. That while others dither, an event is decisive. That while competitors wait, some brands will act.
Conferences and events are the tools of this kind of proactivity. Over the years they have been used to open up markets, launch products, incentivise global teams and educate entire industries, all with the aspiration of injecting growth and dynamism into market places. So why not now?
