A blog about our Meeting on HMS Belfast, London #food #service #events javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$body$save','')

We recently held our senior team meeting on board HMS Belfast and, put simply, the experience was superb.

It has reinvigorated me, and reinforced my beliefs that my company really does offer a great solution for meetings and events buyers. And (through no actual work of my own) it has made me proud!

It’s the job of us marketers (just one of the many) to espouse the values of the companies we represent. So at Lime Venue Portfolio, I espouse the view that unique venues create an added dimension to events. As we’re a division of Levy Restaurants UK, I also espouse the view that food is a critical part of any event which can make the difference between and an event being good, and an event being great!

So it was great to have all these things reaffirmed to me, by seeing them from a customer perspective, a delegate guest attending a meeting. The proof, as they say, was in the pudding.

An amazing venue.

It was a hot day! I had been to HMS Belfast before on numerous occasions, and it is always a pleasure, but it was still a relief when on entering the Admirals Quarters, the air-con was working to perfection and table looked immaculate and the AV, was set up and ready to go. I had arrived an hour early, but the fresh pastries, fruit and yoghurt were ready and the coffee was hot! I couldn’t have asked for a calmer more relaxed start to the day.

A big part, nay the most important part of any event is of course the content, and as usual, as my colleagues arrived, we had an engaging, challenging, funny and thoughtful discussion about a myriad of things important to our business. Critical to any meeting we have a clear agenda, but one that allows us to segue onto related but unplanned discussions as the meeting progresses. This works for us as I am truly lucky to work with a passionate and committed team, who take work seriously, but also take a personal interest in each-others ‘non-work’ lives.

The food, the food, the food

"Research has shown that over 42% of all event feedback is about food"

So hopefully you’re beginning to see the day panning out as a successful and invigorating meeting. We’ve had many before, but then lunch was served, and it elevated our otherwise simple meeting to another level and I am sure that we will remembering the meeting for a long time to come.

When it comes to the food, obviously the venue need to offer culinary skill and choice and need to deliver, but responsibility also rests in the hands of the organiser, who has to order what they believe the guests will want. If guests want healthy, but the organisers orders the chips, fried foods or sandwich platters, then there could be discontent. With a demand for healthier options growing daily, this is what was duly served up. Both got it spot on for our meeting.

The menu is below for your information, but in short, it was simply the freshest, tastiest, combination of foods and flavours you could hope for. We had Rare Roast Beef with Watermelon, Rocket, Wasabi seed mix, Lemon, Chilli dressing, Grilled Mackerel with Pink Grapefruit, Fennel, Red vein Sorrel. And for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike there was Roasted Red Peppers with Goats Cheese, a glorious Quinoa Salad with Lemon Tahini Dressing, Tenderstem Broccoli, Pumpkin Seeds, Pomegranate, Parsley, Cherry Tomatoes, Feta and a Broccoli Slaw with Nigella Seeds, Lemon Yoghurt Dressing. (The latter dish was actually a first foray for me into the trend for raw ingredients, and whilst I was somewhat dubious to begin with the simple dressing made it a lovely one.

Desert, of course, gave a nod to Wimbledon, with a Strawberry & Basil Tart which was ably supported by Roast Peach, Nectarine, Blueberries, Streusel Crumble.

A round of applause went out to the Chef Graham Tooke and his team.

When quizzed on if we had had ‘special treatment’*, Katie Pollock Sales Manager at HMS Belfast, was quick to rebuff the suggestion saying,

“The standard of food on board the ship has always been excellent but since Graham arrived 6 months ago, he has elevated it to another level. His focus on in-trend, fresh food means our food is always exciting and goes down a storm with our clients. The facilities of our unique and quirky venue challenge him and his team on a daily basis and they work absolute miracles. But rest assured all guests are special and yours was one of the menu choices available to all our customers. Research has shown that over 42% of all event feedback is about food, with so much resting on it, it is a massive relief to know that 42% of the event is guaranteed to have outstanding feedback."

(Aside from a visit from the chef, which I have been told, he is happy to do if time commitments allow),

A perfectly productive day that will love long in the memory.
