August’s Q&A installment introduces Lime Venue Portfolio’s Head of Central Sales, Jo Kenny. Jo has worked within the hospitality industry since leaving school, "It’s in my blood and I couldn’t imagine working in any other industry."

How long have you worked with LVP?
10 years in October

Tell us about your role?
The Head of Central Sales role is quite varied. I work with the LVP Venue Search team on a daily basis, helping to find the perfect venues for our customers to host their special events, meetings and conferences. In addition to this I write and create the training calendar and run regular training sessions and WebEx for all C&E event sales staff across the portfolio.

The best part of your job?
Hitting target or helping colleagues across the business to improve their skills/learn how to do something new and then go on to achieve a better result.

What is your favourite film and why?
I have quite varied taste and what movie I watch depends on my mood and who is with me. One of my real favourites is The Godfather – I love Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino and the film is beautifully shot and styled. I liked the fact that Frances Ford Coppola held rehearsal sessions that consisted of the main cast sitting down as their characters for a family meal to help them really get into their roles. I think it shows in the final product.

What do you enjoy the most about working with venues, agents and businesses?
Every enquiry is different to the last – every customer is different and the portfolio never sits still – we always have new spaces, new offers and new venues to talk about keeping everything fresh and interesting.

What motivates you?
Continually making things better.

Favourite restaurant?
I try to get to Hawkesmoor in Seven Dials for a traditional Sunday roast whenever I stay in London over a weekend. Their slow roast rump served with duck fat roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, carrots, greens, roasted shallots & garlic and lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy is to die for.

Why piece of advice would you give to customers who are looking to book an event with Lime Venue Portfolio?
We have a fantastic portfolio to offer you with experienced and professional teams – give us a try, you won’t regret it.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?
Starting French lessons soon to avoid ordering the wrong thing again when I’m on holiday in France next summer.

Best experience at one of LVP’s venues?
As I have been in the business for nearly 10 years there are too many to mention! My highlights however include attending a Tudor banquet in the atmospheric Old Palace at Hatfield House, eating slow roast lamb at Somerset House during the Management Academy, staying overnight in the beautiful bedrooms at Hever Castle, running a training course at ExCeL where every requirement had been well thought through and the delegates had a fantastic experience and a 'back to the floor' experience at the Brits with Payne and Gunter, seeing a large scale operation at the O2 in full swing.

Favourite type of event and why?
I don’t tend to have a favourite type of event, but as I am office based what I really enjoy is being onsite during larger events to take in the atmosphere and see our venues and colleagues from all across the business in full swing.

Won’t leave home without?
Phone – keep in touch with friends and family but more frequently used to entertain my 3 and 6 year old on longer car journeys or ‘boring’ supermarket trips.
