Summer Party Venues

For the summer party, that oh so underappreciated animal, this is the chance for a business to give its staff and teams and even customers a mid-year hug. Whilst a Christmas Party is expected, a summer party is seen in a more pleasant surprise, something the company wants to do, not has to do.

Why Summer Parties will matter in 2017

There are two times of the year when business events professionals go into ‘party mode’; Christmas and Summer. We all know about Christmas Parties, they are a great way for a business to thank its people, its clients, and its customers at a time of the year when giving is important.

But Summer Parties are different; there is no expectation on a Summer Party, if a business decided not to do a Christmas Party there would be all manner of contention, it would send negative messages around confidence, security, and job satisfaction. The same isn’t true of Summer Parties, so why have they become such a multimillion pound industry? The reason is all good news for the industry …

Why Christmas Became Summer

There was a period, not long after the economic crash, when questions were raised over Christmas Parties. With stretched HR teams looking at everything from mass redundancy to end of year bonus cutting, the idea of splurging money on a massive party didn’t seem sympathetic. Equally, for larger businesses with angry shareholders, spending on a Christmas extravaganza seemed wasteful. It was a tough time for the industry.

Still, while the industry did suffer, it didn’t break, and has since bounced back and rallied, why? Because the Christmas Party offered a quite excellent return on investment. So much so that the budget wasn’t taken from the FD’s rainy day fund, or even the sales and marketing or events budget, it seemed to move into the HR budget. Teams of human resources professionals fought hard for a chance for staff to get together; with each other, with other sectors of the business, and with leadership.

In fact, it was this huge resurgence of confidence and pride in the Christmas Party market that has then fed into a secondary event in the summer. If it worked in the winter, why wouldn’t it work in the summer?

An Unexpected Gift from the Company

The reality is that businesses ‘have to’ have a Christmas Party, but when a business has a Summer Party it has made a positive choice. The choice could be built around injecting confidence into a business, as a way of saying thank you, as a way of motivating the team for a tough second half of the year, or as a moment to stop and reflect after a major project of business win.

Again, this choice is being made in the boardroom, but also in the human resources department and the sales and marketing department as well as through the events team. It’s a compelling choice as well; Summer Parties, at their finest can really shine.

Unusual is Ideal for Summer

Like every party, guests can dress up or dress down, but this time the outdoor elements add more choice and variety to the experience. Choosing an event venue can open up outdoor environments as well as indoor ones, different themes can be accommodated. This is where the unique venue sector really comes into its own …

Garden parties in country getaways like Hatfield House and Hever Castle, bring in the option of lawn games, mazes, and outdoor grazing on strawberries and cream and Pimms. The nights are longer, and the evenings are barmy, the organiser can build more into the programme, guest can take their time, and everything is that little more relaxed.

For those that want to inject a little more pace into proceedings, why not link the party in with a team building experience. Again, many unique venues have ready made incentive space. Hunts around the Churchill War Room, a trip to the museum at IWM Duxford, or pitch side entertainment at the King Power Stadium, all add interest and entertainment to a summer party.

Choosing the right venue also sends a strong message to guests. What better way to hype up a business than through a trip to Twickenham, what better way to wind down than on the River Thames aboard HMS Belfast, what better way to say thank you that an escape to Beaulieu House. Venues send a message that backs up all the reasons that the business chose to give this summer party present to the people most important to it.

Eat and Drink the Sunshine in

With a perfect environment set, and as with all great parties, just add the right amount of food and drink. At Lime Venue Portfolio, we unite unique venues through amazing food and our chefs love summer. From delicate cakes to light and fresh meals, you pick the venue and the mood, and our chefs will create menu that sets the tone from the first glass of Pimms to the last glass of champagne.

Fresh seafood is an increasing favourite amongst guests at summer parties, so organisers should keep an eye out for gorgeous iced platters, smoked salmon and crab blinis. Afternoon tea parties are also incredibly popular, they offer a quaint and quintessentially British experience that is very irresistible.

Summer is a time of year where ingredients are fresh, where venues are looking as wonderful as ever, and in general people are in a better mood. So, what better gift to a business than one you never needed to give in the first place and where better to set your party than somewhere unusual and delightful.
