New Spaces at MOSI
The Science of Conferencing and Catering
The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Manchester is undergoing a period of major refurbishment and is due to fully reopen all its facilities by August 2010.
"A truly inspiring place to hold your business event, surrounded by some of the world’s most pioneering inventions and creations"
Tony Hill, Director, MOSI
Manchester is to have two unique new conference spaces within the atmospheric surroundings of a redeveloped warehouse in MOSI (Museum of Science & Industry, in Manchester). MOSI’s main building is currently undergoing major redevelopment work which will transform the former railway warehouse into a new Revolution Manchester gallery to introduce the city’s role in science and industry, as well as new conference, catering and education facilities, and a new interactive Experiment gallery.
Great Spaces
MOSI's conference centre is currently closed, but when it re-opens later in the year up to 250 people will be able dine around, and even under fascinating exhibits in Revolution Manchester, or in a purpose-built conference room which can be dressed to suit any occasion.
Organisers will be able to use one of four new meeting rooms, seating between 14 and 40 people in a variety of layouts, including theatre, boardroom, u-shape and cabaret. There will also be a state-of-the-art function room which can be adapted to accommodate a wide variety of group sizes, from 50 to over 400, in theatre, reception, banquet or cabaret style. The room can be used for dinner dances and can seat up to 200.
Tony Hill, director of MOSI said: “These conference facilities will be like nothing else on offer in Manchester. Within our beautiful historic warehouse, we will have state of the art conference facilities to cater for all event types and sizes. Our new Revolution Manchester gallery will showcase the most exciting industrial and science achievements of the city and act as a signpost to the rest of the Museum’s galleries. It will be a truly inspiring place to hold your business event, surrounded by some of the world’s most pioneering inventions and creations.”
A new coffee shop on the ground floor, seating 80, will provide a modern and friendly place to meet, while a new restaurant on the first floor has room for 210 diners to enjoy tasty meals made from locally sourced produce. MOSI is even planning to give you a bit of science with your sustenance with a ‘food theatre’ area where you can see exactly how your dinner is created.
The main building was originally built as a warehouse in 1880 for the Great Western Railway Company. It was one of several warehouses which formed part of the former Liverpool Road railway station – the world’s oldest surviving passenger railway station, which opened in 1830 as part of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway.
