The Grass is Greener at The Royal Horticultural Halls

The Royal Horticultural Halls and Conference Centre’s motto is ‘making life easier for you’ – and now they are making it even easier for clients to be greener. By launching a number of new policies to carefully manage energy and minimise waste, the Halls will enable clients to achieve a high level of sustainability for their events.

A Greener Alternative

Whilst many other venues send waste which cannot be recycled to landfill sites, The RHH is offering a greener alternative. All general waste from the Halls is sent to generate power at the SELCHP energy recovery facility in Deptford, which generates enough electricity for 50,000 London homes. In addition, any residues left after the process are used as aggregates in road building. As only local waste management facilities are used, the whole system also limits ‘waste mileage’ and fuel usage.

Maugie Lyons, head of commercial operations at The Halls, says: “Clients are constantly seeking new ways to lower the carbon footprint of their event and until now general waste has hampered sustainability. Added to our existing sustainability policies, this new scheme has proved to be really positive and is an additional incentive for clients to book the Halls.”
